How Your Business Can Partner With the United Way

Culture, Events, Mindfulness

United Way Waterloo Region Communities (UWWRC) has been a pillar of support for our region, addressing critical issues like poverty, mental health, food insecurity, and housing.

We’re proud to be an ally – our CEO Nancy Priest is part of the organization’s Cabinet – and want to stress that local businesses have a significant opportunity – and responsibility – to make a difference in their communities.

It’s actually expected, as 70% of consumers and employees believe companies need to contribute to making the world a better place. And there are numerous ways you can help the United Way specifically and create a lasting impact.

1) Join the Campaign Cabinet

The Campaign Cabinet is a group of community leaders dedicated to raising awareness and engaging new donors. By becoming part of this group, you’ll strengthen UWWRC’s efforts and amplify the impact of its fundraising campaigns. This will help secure funding for important community services.

2) Get Involved with the Board of Directors

Volunteering with UWWRC allows leaders to gain insights into the community’s needs. By joining the Board of Directors, leaders bring their expertise to the decision-making process, helping to shape the future of local programming.

3) Community Investment Team (CIT)

By supporting the CIT, your business can directly impact how funds are allocated to local organizations. This group assesses applications for funding and determines how to best address priority areas like mental health, food insecurity, and homelessness.

4) Sponsorship Opportunities

Support key community events while enhancing your company’s profile. From the Campaign Launch and Spirit Awards to Golf for a Cause and the Corporate Trivia Challenge, these events bring your brand into the spotlight while making a difference in the community.

Sponsoring UWWRC events not only demonstrates your company’s commitment to social responsibility, but it also positions you as a forward-thinking, community-minded organization.

Sponsorship opportunities include:

  • Campaign Launch – March of 1,000 Umbrellas
  • Spirit Awards Celebration
  • Golf for a Cause Tournament
  • Days of Caring – Seasonal Opportunities
  • Corporate Trivia Challenge
  • Holiday Giving / Corporate Match Programs
5) Launch a Workplace Campaign

Encourage your employees to contribute to the cause through workplace campaigns. These initiatives empower your team to make a collective impact, whether through payroll deductions, employee-driven events, or volunteer opportunities. Building a culture of giving at work can increase employee engagement and create a deeper connection to the community.

How UWWRC Transforms the Community

When your business supports UWWRC, you’re helping to provide critical services and support to those in need. The funds raised go toward programs that tackle homelessness, food insecurity, mental health issues, youth mentorship, and more.

This past year, UWWRC has invested over $2.6 million in local non-profit organizations, impacting 215,558 individuals and 76 community partners across Waterloo Region. Proving that together, we can build a stronger, more resilient community for everyone.
