In these lock-down times with winter upon us, things might seem bleak. To help with our resiliency and keep our mindsets positive, consider these ideas for a staycation that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready for the year ahead.
- Go offline – unplugging your devices will provide the brain with a mental detox that most of us desperately need. Setting a realistic amount of time away from your electronics will leave you feeling refreshed and re-energized and lets your mind recover from the constant stimulation of emails and social media.
- Forget about Time – you could even put away clocks and watches for a day or two and be surprised at how relaxing this can be.
- Musical melodies – music can transport your mind to other places, so use it to set the mood for your staycation. You could create a playlist around a certain theme to help set the mood or give you the feeling of your favourite travel destination.
- Indulge yourself – a little pampering can go a long way. indulgently long warm bath to soak in. Add essential oils, etc. (moon bath ingredients), light candles, soft music, eat chocolate treats, give yourself a manicure or pedicure, order your favourite take-out meals. What ever makes you feel luxurious.
- Mind escape – line up your favourite movies or ones you have been wanting to see. Make some home-made popcorn, break out the snacks and your favourite beverage. Curl up with a cozy blanket and start your movie marathon.
- Book worm – order or download some good books or your favourite magazines. Give yourself time to unwind with some great reading. Make your choices based on what you would normally take with you on holiday.
- Replicate the hotel experience – order ‘room service’ with a meal delivery service. Crisp sheets, spa water (sliced cucumbers or lemon in it), extra cozy slippers and plush bathrobes can all add to the feeling of having a special treat.
- Yoga retreat – find a good yoga app, create your own at-home yoga studio with essential oils, candles, and soft music. Connect your mind and body with a well-deserved work-out, gentle stretch or relaxation.
- Vitamin D – buy a sunlamp, put on your shades and a soundtrack of waves crashing on the sand. Imagine the feeling of being on a sun-drenched beach and let your mind float away.
- Formal night– dress up in your best outfit, cook a nice meal (or order in), pour a glass of your favourite drink, set the lights low and put on your favourite tunes while you enjoy your meal. Re-create the feeling of being in a nice restaurant without leaving the comfort of your home.
Have some fun with creating a staycation you can enjoy that will leave you feeling relaxed, connected and re-energized.
